Welcome to the Beecher Counseling Page!
Dear Beecher Families:
My name is Sonja Jennings and I am the school counselor at Beecher Elementary. This is my fourteenth year in the district and thirteenth year as the school counselor at Beecher. I feel very fortunate to work in a school dedicated to helping all students succeed and I would like to offer my support to you and your child/children in any way that I can. I am available to meet with students in person who are attending under the hybrid model and can also meet over Zoom or by phone for those attending virtually. Above all, I am here to offer my support in helping all Beecher students achieve success.

Components of the Beecher School Counseling Program:
(1) Monthly Classroom Lessons: Students will participate in monthly classroom lessons with the school counselor, both in person and virtually. These lessons will cover a variety of topics intended to further support the academic, social/emotional, and career development of all students.
(2) Small Group Counseling: Small group counseling/skill building is open to all students in the building. Topics covered during small group counseling change depending on student needs. Topics covered in the past include, but are not limited to: social skills, anger management, managing anxiety, friendship, and grief support. Parental permission is needed for students to participate in small group counseling. Due to social distancing requirements, small group counseling will be limited to only include students from the same classroom at any given time.
(3) Individual Short-Term Counseling: Students are able to meet with the school counselor individually throughout the school year as needed. This is for short-term counseling and support and can cover a variety of topics. Parents can request individual counseling using the referral form below, or by contacting the Beecher school counselor or your child's teacher.
(4) Additional Supports: In addition to the direct services listed above, the Beecher school counselor assists families with connecting to various community agencies and supports as needed, provides families with information about school programs, offers school staff resources to help support students, and serves as an advocate for all students at Beecher.
If you are interested in learning more about the school counseling program at Beecher Elementary, please refer to the school counseling plan listed below, or contact the Beecher school counselor. Materials will continue to be updated on the page throughout the school year.
